چکیده

The moderately halophilic heterotrophic aerobic bacteria form a diverse group of microorganisms. The property of halophilism is widespread within the bacterial domain. Bacterial halophiles are abundant in environments such as salt lakes, saline soils, and salted food products. Most species keep their intracellular ionic concentrations at low levels while synthesizing or accumulating organic solutes to provide osmotic equilibrium of the cytoplasm with the surrounding medium. Complex mechanisms of adjustment of the intracellular environments and the properties of the cytoplasmic membrane enable rapid adaptation to changes in the salt concentration of the environment. Approaches to the study of genetic processes have recently been developed for several moderate halophiles, opening the way toward an understanding of haloadaptation at the molecular level. The new information obtained is also expected to contribute to the development of novel biotechnological uses for these organisms.

Diversity of culturable halophilic sulfur-oxidizing bacteria in hypersaline habitats.

Unexpectedly high culturable diversity of moderately and extremely halophilic obligately chemolithoautotrophic sulfur-oxidizing bacteria (SOB) was discovered in the sediments of various hypersaline habitats, including chloride-sulfate lakes in Mongolia, Russia and Ukraine, a sea saltern in Slovenia and a deep-sea salt brine from the Mediterranean. Six different groups of halophilic SOB, includi...

Decolorization of Cibacron Black w-55 under Alkaline Conditions by New Strain of Halomonas sp. Isolated from Textile Effluent

Among the 30 strains of moderately halophilic bacteria isolated from the salty effluents of textile industries around Qom city in central Iran, a Gram-negative rod shape bacterium designated as strain IP8 showed a remarkable ability in decolorizing of azo dyes over wide ranges of pH (7-11) and temperature (25-45 ºC), in presence of NaCl and Na2SO...

High quality draft genome sequence of the moderately halophilic bacterium Pontibacillus yanchengensis Y32T and comparison among Pontibacillus genomes

Pontibacillus yanchengensis Y32(T) is an aerobic, motile, Gram-positive, endospore-forming, and moderately halophilic bacterium isolated from a salt field. In this study, we describe the features of P. yanchengensis strain Y32(T) together with a comparison with other four Pontibacillus genomes. The 4,281,464 bp high-quality-draft genome of strain Y32(T) is arranged into 153 contigs containing 3...

Detection of the ectC Gene in Halomonas Strains by Polymerase Chain Reaction

1, 4, 5, 6-Tetrahydro-2-methyl-4-pyrimidine carboxylic acid (ectoine) is an excellent osmoprotectant. Ectoine and hydroxyl ectoines are of great significance to the biotechnology industry, thus the detection and isolation of ectoine producing bacteria is of great importance. Hence, this study involved the detection of the ectC gene (encoding ectoin synthase enzyme) using polymerase chain reacti...

A novel low molecular weight extracellular protease from a moderately halophilic bacterium Salinivibrio sp. strain MS-7: production and biochemical properties

Kinetics of bacterial growth and protease production were monitored on a novel isolated moderately halophilic bacterium, Salinivibrio sp. strain MS-7, and maximum growth and protease activity was achieved after 48 hours at 30°C and 180 rpm. To determine the effect of various carbon sources on protease production, glucose, lactose, sucrose and maltose were investigated and  maximum production of...
